Small business success

Since beginning my career, I had a lot of small business owners talk about business basics. It may surprise you to know that I offer a few suggestions to anyone who asks. The following suggestions are what I like to call the template for the success of small businesses.

Know your niche: Decide today. Who is truly your best market? If the answer is "someone with money," you need to narrow the focus of your business. Once you find the real niche of your company, work hard to expand appeal of the organization.

Stand out from the crowd: You know what really sets you apart from the competition? We live in a global market where there is usually someone who just around the corner to duplicate their services. Find out what makes you special and share with your potential customers.

Be happy: You would think that people buy from you because you offer the best price or selection. Do not kid yourself. Your customers buy from you because they like what you are. Remember this and let your personality and humor shine!

Tell not sell: You have a great product or service. If you need people to put pressure on the final sale, it will build a long term relationship. Understand together how your organization can meet the needs of your customers. Always try to do what is best for your customers.

Consistency sell: It is important that every aspect of your business offers the same message. Make it a priority to have your slogan printed on each item. Make sure you have your slogan on your e-mail, web site and voice mail. The most important thing you must remember this suggestion is that all staff must also convey information, such as marketing is trying to relay.

Think fast: When someone tells you to "fall forward fast", you are giving the message to go forward without hesitation in order to learn from their mistakes before. In business, time is precious. You must remember that this rule applies to your customers as well. I look forward to responding to e-mail or telephone. What may seem a short period of time in your world can seem an eternity to the person waiting to hear from you. This rule also applies to deliveries and customer complaints.

Remember your manners: Do not matter what type of activities, good manners is always a good deal principal. Tell your customers, "thank you" frequently. Going beyond the usual "thank you" and let them know that I sincerely appreciate the fact that they chose to do business with your organization.

Be excited: Remember that perception is reality. In other words, when you believe that your products or services are amazing, your customers also. You must make a daily habit to be excited and optimistic about your organization. You will find that the work becomes more enjoyable and your customers will become your biggest supporters because they become engulfed in your positive energy!

Be flexible: You must always keep an open mind to new ideas. Remember that technology and the market are constantly evolving. If you are willing to try new things or look to the future, you can dispense with tools that can help grow your organization in the future.

It can be difficult to manage a small business. Sometimes you feel you are drowning in doubt and indecision. Stay strong and remember the rules. Trust your instincts and remember that you are an expert in your field. Everything else will fall into place....
